I managed to cross twenty-seven books off my TBR List over the past couple of months. (It definitely helped to print and organize ‘The List’ by books I own, the library owns, and need to find somehow.) Of course by the first of February, after falling three months behind, I have managed to add an additional thirty-three titles to my list. The first seventeen are included below; the remaining titles will be posted later this week.
- The Art of the Steal (Christopher Manson) — Thanks to Alex of The Sleepless Reader’s post on books about art restoration and business.
- A Beautiful Place to Die (Malla Nunn) — Thanks to Kim of Reading Matters’ review.
- The Blind Assassin (Margaret Atwood) — Of the three Atwood books I’ve read, I have absolutely loved two of them and really would like to read more. Erin of Erin Reads’ review of this particular novel made me want to pick up this one pronto.
- Broken Birds (Jeannette Katzir) — Thanks to Heather of Book Addiction’s review.
- The Caravaggio Conspiracy (Peter Watson) — Thanks to Alex of The Sleepless Reader’s post on books about art restoration and business.
- Chosen (Chadnra Hoffman) — Thanks to Heather of Book Addiction’s review.
- The Cry of Winnie Mandela (Njabulo S. Ndebele) — One of my goals for the year is to read more literature by foreign authors and read more books set in the countries of Africa. Kinna of Kinna Reads’ review called this book “one of the most significant literary works written by an African in this new century”.
- A Cup of Friendship (Deborah Rodriguez) — Thanks to Erin of Erin Reads’ review.
- Days of Grace (Catherine Hall) — Thanks to Heather of Book Addiction’s review.
- The Door (Magda Szabó) — Thanks to Rebecca of The Reading Diary’s review.
- A Friend of the Family (Lauren Grodstein) — Thanks to Iliana of bookgirl’s nightstand’s review.
- Girl in Translation (Jean Kwok) — Thanks to Erin of Erin Reads’ review.
- Guests of the Sheik (Elizabeth Warnock Fernea) — Thanks to Tricia of Library Queue’s review.
- The Hand That First Held Mine (Maggie O’Farrell) — Thanks to Jackie of Farm Lane Books Blog’s review.
- The Harmony Silk Factory (Tash Aw) — Thanks to Jackie of Farm Lane Books Blog’s review.
- Hiroshima (John Hersey) — Shannon of Giraffe Days highlighted this book in her post on “Remembering Through Reading”. Shannon said the book is “very powerful and highly sympathetic to the Japanese civilians caught in a war and a political mess not of their making”.
- The Kindly Ones (Jonathan Littell) — Shannon of Giraffe Days highlighted this book in her post on “Remembering Through Reading”.
At some point during the year you decide to buy the ones you got from me, let me know and I’ll do it at the same time and we can read them at the same time as well.

That would be great, Alex! I’ve added both books to my wishlist so as soon as I get my hands on them I will let you know.

Great selection of books! I loved The Kindly Ones, but I warn you that it is very graphic and is the most disturbing book I’ve ever read. Not for the faint hearted!

Hmm. Graphic? Sometimes graphic books do not bother me all that much and I can still finish it (Blindness comes to mind), but other times I cannot. Still going to try the book, though.

This is the story of my life 😛 No matter how many books I knock off the pile, more find their way in. I loved The Blind Assassin – I hope you will too!

And I was so proud of myself for cross 27 books off the list, too! Oh, well, thus is the life of a book blogger.

I haven’t read anything on your list but I do have Blind Assassin, Girl in Translation, and Hand that First Held Mine on my tbr list. It seems like the faster I read, the more books I add to my tbr pile so I know where you’re coming from! 🙂 Have a great week!
