Subtitled “40 Schools That Will Change the Way You Think About Colleges”, this book profiles 40 colleges that, according to Pope, outdo the Ivies and research universities in producing performers, not only among A students but also among those who get Bs and Cs. Contents include:
- Evaluations of each school’s program and “personality”
- Candid assessments by students, professors, and deans
- Information on the progress of graduates
This book takes a realistic look at about 40 colleges which are outside the mainstream but which are fairing better than the Ivy League and those well-known schools in terms of the success of their students in the real world.
I would recommend this book to any one who is embarking on college visits and searches. It opened my eyes to small colleges out there and I’ve found two more — Clark and Hampshire — that I really want to visit.
