Like most people, I have a tendency to be scared off by the sheer size of a book. Anything over four hundred pages are daunting to me unless, of course, the book is a textbook broken down over several months. And even those are off-putting at times.

In 2008 I finished this challenge within the first half of the year, and last year I finished the challenge, so maybe I just need a shove to get started.

Under the “The Plump Primer” participation level of the 2011 Chunkster Challenge, the challenge is to read six books of adult literature (fiction or nonfiction) of 450 pages or more between February 1, 2011 and January 31, 2012. Audiobooks, eBooks, and short story collections do not count for this challenge.

Possible Selections:

  • Catch-22 (Joseph Heller) — 453 pages
  • The Historian (Elizabeth Kostova) — 642 pages
  • Little Women (Louisa May Alcott) — 643 pages
  • The Stand (Stephen King) — 1,141 pages
  • Witness to the Holocaust (Azriel Eisenberg) — 649 pages
